Preserving History, Creating Opportunity

Built as a Green Book Motel, The Colbrook offered comfort, safety, and dignity to Black travelers during segregation. Founded in the 1950s by William E. Brooks and Dr. Cortlandt M. Colson, it provided safe lodging, fuel, and community along Route 1. 


More than a motel, The Colbrook became a symbol of resilience, economic opportunity, and welcome. Today, that legacy lives on through the preservation and transformation of this historic site.
